Over 100 friends joined us for the 2018 edition of the Henry Marshall Tory Lecture. The talk was insightful and we received a lot of positive feedback. We consider it a huge success. Thank you to The Right Honourable Kim Campbell and all the attendees. We look forward to planning future opportunities to engage the community with the University of Alberta.
Friends of the University of Alberta Society Graduate Award
The Friends of the University of Alberta Society are proud to announce that they have created a new Graduate Student Prize valued at $10,000. On January 31, 2018, the Friends president Kate Freeman presented the first cheque to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research representative Dr. Bryan Hogeveen.
Two awards of $5000 to be awarded annually to a full-time student entering the first year of any graduate degree at the University of Alberta. Based on academic achievement and outstanding community service as demonstrated through research and/or involvement in community engagement and/or volunteer activities. Renewable for a second year contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic standing. Award is credited directly towards fees. Eligible students should contact their home department for information on the application process for this award.

Preparing 21st Century Leaders
The 2018 edition of the Henry Marshall Tory Lecture, presented by The Friends of the University of Alberta will feature The Right Honourable Kim Campbell on the topic Preparing 21st Century Leaders.
The lecture will be Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 6:30pm to 9pm at the TELUS Lecture Theatre in the TELUS Centre located at 11104 87 Ave NW, Edmonton.

Tour of Mineralogy and Petrology Museum
Come and see a ‘hidden gem’ on the U of A campus. The Mineralogy and Petrology Museum houses hundreds of samples of rocks and minerals, including meteorites and diamonds! Participants will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of the University’s Meteorite Collection, containing over 1400 meteorite specimens from around the world, in the state-of-the-art Meteorite Lab. The tour will be led by Professor Chris Herd, a meteorite specialist and curator of the collection.
The tour is limited to 18 people and will last approximately 1.5 hours on November 2, 2017 at 12 noon. Reserve your ticket here.
